The Nurse Practitioner is responsible for the evaluation and treatment of patients in the hospice program, while functioning within the guidelines and requirements of the Colorado State Board of Nursing for Advanced Practice. The Nurse Practitioner functions as a member of the Interdisciplinary Group and collaborates closely with the physicians, nurses and other professionals while reporting to the Chief Medical Officer. Included in this position description are the essential functions required.The Nurse Practitioner is able to work with neonates through geriatrics.
Minimum Education: Graduation from a nationally accredited educational program which confers a graduate degree in a clinical nursing specialty
Must have prescriptive authority
Minimum Experience: Two years’ experience as a Nurse Practitioner in Hospice, Internal Medicine, Family Practice, Pediatrics, Oncology, or related field of medicine
Preferred Experience: Demonstrated competence and experience in palliative end-of-life care preferred
Required Certification/License: Current Colorado Nurse Practitioner License
Colorado state driver’s license
ANA (American Nurses Association) Scope and Standards of Advanced Nursing Practice
Proficient using Windows platform and Microsoft applications
Skills and abilities as listed in Position Accountabilities and Performance Criteria
Thorough knowledge of the practices, principles, and techniques of a hospice program
Must have consultation privileges at all local hospitals or be actively applying for same
Must have current medical liability coverage
Adequate transportation to complete job responsibilities in a timely manner
Completion of Pikes Peak Hospice & Palliative Care agency orientation, basic skills training, and departmental specialized/skills training
Thorough knowledge of pain symptom management in the terminally ill
Must be able to operate standard office equipment
Prolonged, extensive, or considerable standing/walking/sitting
Manual dexterity and mobility
Visual and auditory acuity
