Neurosurgeon/Director of Clinical Operations

JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for providing medical care to the neurosurgical patient in collaboration with a physician in both clinical and hospital settings.
TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Prolonged sitting, standing, bending, stooping, stretching, and walking
Normal range of hearing and vision to record, prepare, and communicate appropriate reports and records
Ability to help transfer patient
Occasional stress from dealing with multiple tasks, anxious patients and families, and critically ill patients.

JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performs history and physical examinations.
Performs new patient consultations and routine follow up care in collaboration with the attending physician.
Formulates a treatment plan for patients in collaboration with the attending and consulting physicians.
Orders and interprets appropriate diagnostic tests, prescribes therapies and medications, and refers patients for additional evaluation as appropriate and within the Nurse Practitioner’s scope of practice as determined by the Arizona State Board of Nursing.
Monitors the patient’s compliance with the plan of care and response to the prescribed treatment. Modifies the treatment plan accordingly.
Provides patient and family education and counseling related to the patient’s health status.
Performs minor office procedures within the Nurse Practitioner’s scope of practice as determined by the Arizona State Board of Nursing including but not limited to suturing of minor wounds, wound care, injections, and the administration of medications as appropriate.
Triages patient calls and evaluates patient problems.
Performs initial film review.
Documents patient information and care provided in the patient record.
Provides continuity of care and assists in the referral of patients to the appropriate healthcare facilities, agencies and community resources as needed.
Communicates with the attending physicians, consulting physicians, and resident physicians as appropriate.
Oversees the management of the collaborating physician’s office.
Participates in clinical studies.
Maintains patient confidentiality.
Participates in academic activities including but not limited to precepting students and presenting at local and national meetings.
Acts as resource to other personnel.
Other duties and assignments as necessary.
Knowledge of acute and chronic care protocols, administration of medication, delivery of care following the treatment plan
Knowledge of health promotion principles and techniques and patient learning measurements
Skill in gathering and analyzing physiological, socioeconomic and emotional patient data
Maintains positive attitude and demonstrates the utmost in professionalism at all times
Excellent oral, written & telephone communication, along with tact, diplomacy, and a strong customer service orientation
Prioritizes work activities and accepts multiple job duties
Maintains effective working relationships with physicians, administration and other staff members
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Graduate of NLN accredited NP program
Current certification as a NP through a nationally recognized certification body
Current state RN license and NP certification, current CPR certification
Minimum of one year experience as NP, preferably in a clinical setting in a surgery practice
