While faculty are expected and incentivized to secure extramural funding, faculty salaries are not dependent upon grant dollars. The Indiana University School of Public Health-Bloomington announces a tenure-track, 10-month Assistant/Associate Professor position in the Department of Recreation, Park, and Tourism Studies beginning as early as Fall 2018. Engage in a focused line of scholarly inquiry related to the linkages of recreation, parks, tourism or leisure behavior to human health and well-being. Seek and secure extramural funding for research. Provide high quality instruction in graduate program, departmental core classes, and major courses as assigned. Recruitment and mentoring of graduate students. Provide service to the department, institution and profession. This focus on leisure and health may include, but is not limited to: The relationship of leisure behavior to health, active living, policy and systems analysis, human/environment interactions, local economic development and/or impact, targeted populations, etc. Advancement of interdisciplinary research across the IU campus, and in a global context. Candidates should focus on recreation therapy as it relates to the broader conception of recreation, parks, or tourism with a relationship to public health and health well-being. This may include, but is not limited to: The relationship of treatment for healthy lifestyles, leisure coping, trauma, mental health, stigma, chronic disease prevention, health disparities and disability, social determinants of health, and the study of addictions.

Doctoral degree required with at least one degree in recreation, park, or tourism studies, leisure behavior or closely related discipline. Professional level certification (CTRS®) by the National Council on Therapeutic Recreation Certification is required. Candidates must also demonstrate a record of scholarly achievement appropriate for career level, including extramurally funded research, current funding or strong potential to secure external funding, the ability to collaborate across disciplines, and a positive team spirit. |
