The University of Maryland, College Park, is looking for an Executive Director for the Brain and Behavior Initiative. The Brain and Behavior Institute is a large, interdisciplinary, campus-wide research consortium including over 200 affiliated faculty members in approximately 45 departments across seven Colleges and Schools (College of Agriculture & Natural Resources; College of Arts & Humanities; College of Behavioral & Social Sciences; College of Computer, Mathematical, & Natural Sciences; College of Education; the A. James Clark School of Engineering, and the School of Public Health).
BBI is part of the MPowering the State initiative—a collaboration between the state of Maryland’s two most powerful public research institutions: the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) and the University of Maryland, College Park (UMCP). Established in 2011, MPower leverages the strengths, complementary structures and missions of both institutions to advance interdisciplinary research, expand opportunities for students, and solve important problems for the people of Maryland and the nation. The University of Maryland Strategic Partnership Act of 2016 formalized MPower, deepening the alliance and directing UMB and UMCP to pursue even greater transformative change and joint impact.
The Executive Director will be expected to build upon the BBI’s established base to foster and integrate groundbreaking research and educational activities; work with departments, colleges and other partners to build neuroscience on both campuses; and to lead a research group that exemplifies scientific and technological excellence.

Candidates must have earned a Ph.D and/or an M.D. in a field related to the mission of BBI, must have an outstanding research and publication record, substantial external grant funding, relevant administrative experience, and a demonstrated commitment to teaching and mentorship at both the undergraduate and graduate levels A joint appointment in two or more departments/colleges at College Park and/or in one of the professional colleges at UMB is possible.
