Position Summary Under general direction of Department Director and designee, the Registered Dietitian (RD)is responsible for ensuring clinical expertise for all food services and providing excellent customer service and patient satisfaction. The RD assists in providing guidance and education to staff to help create a positive work culture and cost effective management of all aspects of food services. Responsible for all food service-related activities; including patient care, non-patient care (retail, cafeteria, catering, etc.), quality improvement, sanitation, infection control and all hospital-related activities.
Primary Duties 1.Utilizing knowledge of healthcare food, nutrition, and catering trends, oversee the development of department strategic priorities and operational policies/procedures, with a focus on best practices in food quality, efficiency in production, best sanitation, food cost controls, food presentation, etc.
2.Collaborate with administrative leadership in defining the strategic and operational plan for department. Communicate plans and continuously evaluate plans.
3.Applies knowledge of clinical nutrition, with emphasis on the needs of various levels of acute care patients, to all policy development and decision making for the department.
4.Oversees department's performance improvement initiatives in preparation for The Joint Commission, health department inspections, and any other regulatory agency requirements.
5.Documents all relevant aspects of nutritional care for patients in accordance with departmental standards.
6.Performs nutritional assessments per nutritional assessment policy and procedures and standards of practice.
7.Abides by and promotes the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) privacy and security policies and procedures and regulatory requirements
8.Attends healthcare team meetings regularly.
9.Educates patients on long term nutritional care through individual discussions, group classes and community speaking engagements. Responsible for developing and implementing nutritional education programs and strategies to achieve a high level of patient satisfaction. Documents patients level of understanding
10.Writes modified diets and coordinates diet adaptations with house menus. Approves menus and monitors and approves meal substitutions as needed.
11.Serves as an educational resource to foodservice, nursing and medical personnel.
12.Maintains department records, reports, and files as required.
13. Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, and workshops as required by the Commission of Dietetic Registration.

Minimum Education/Certification/Experience: â�¢Knowledge of foods/nutrition; food preparation; production; supervisory/instructional techniques â�¢One year experience in dietetics (may consider new grad if staffing allows) â�¢Supervisory experience preferred â�¢Bachelorâ��s Degree â�¢Registered Dietitian (RD) â�� Commission on Dietetic Registration â�¢ServSafe Certification (within 14 day of hire)
