The Trauma Nurse Practitioner (NP) works in collaboration with the Trauma Medical Director, Attending Trauma Surgeons and trauma team medical providers to participate in the diagnosis, treatment and management of trauma patients admitted to the Trauma Service.The Trauma NP follows injured patients from admission to discharge, rounding on patients daily, performing interventions within the Nurse Practitionerï¿½s scope of practice, monitoring patientï¿½s progress and providing patient and family education.The Trauma NP works in partnership with Nursing, Physical, Occupational and Speech Therapy, Case Management, Social Work, the patient and their families to optimize recovery and facilitate the patient's recovery and discharge from the hospital.The Trauma Nurse Practitioner is an integral part of the Trauma Service, working with the Trauma Medical Director, Trauma Program Manager, Trauma Quality Nurses and the multidisciplinary team to improve the quality of care delivered to injured patients and their families and the overall trauma system.
California licensed Registered Nurse.Completion of an Accredited Program for Nurse Practitioners including preceptorship and certification as a Nurse Practitioner.Possession of, or the ability to apply for a furnishing Number from the State of California, Board of Registered Nursing. A minimum of 16 hours of trauma-related education per year, BLS, ACLS, PALS, ATCN or TNCC provider/instructor preferred.ATLS within 1 year of hire.
Demonstrates strong communication skills:written, verbal, listening, interpersonal, and facilitation; able to organize and prioritize work assignments; able to work independently; presentation, public relation, community education/outreach skills; and analytical and problem solving ability
Trauma patient assessment and triage; current theory, principles and procedures specific to trauma.Basic computer skills; knowledge of ACS, County and State trauma center requirements
