The Infection Preventionist (IP) directs and coordinates the infection control program in the hospital. The designated person will be given the authority to implement and enforce the Surveillance, Prevention and Control Program policies, coordinate all infection prevention and control within the hospital and facilitate ongoing monitoring of the effectiveness of prevention and/or control activities and interventions.
a.Experienced healthcare professional with a health sciences background; Typically a registered nurse (RN), physician, epidemiologist, or medical technologist (MT). Has knowledge and experience in the identification of infectious disease processes, surveillance and epidemiologic investigation, preventing and controlling the transmission of infectious agents, patient care practices, microbiology, aseptic technique, disinfection/sterilization, adult education, infectious diseases, communication, and program administration.
b.Becomes certified in infection prevention and control when eligible through the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology; and maintains certification.Completes a basic infection control training course within the first six months of entering the profession or being hired at a Tenet facility, whichever comes first.
c.Baccalaureate degree preferred, or, must meet the eligibility requirements to sit for the CIC exam. An Associateï¿½s Degree or higher from an accredited academic institution is required to sit for the exam, along with a recommended two years of experience in Infection prevention and control including: 1) Identification of infection disease processes, 2) Surveillance and epidemiologic investigation, and 3) Preventing and controlling the transmission of infectious agents.
Required:Must be currently licensed, certified or registered to practice profession as required by law, regulation in state of practice or policy. Must have National Certification in Infection Control (CIC) or obtain within 2 years of assuming the position.
