Advanced Practice Registered Nurses / Physician Assistants
The Department of Neurology at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center is seeking a licensed Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to partner with Neurology, Neurosurgery, and Critical Care physicians as they care for neurocritical care patients admitted to the newly created 10 bed Neurological Intensive Care Unit (ICU). The Advanced Practice Professional will work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team of physicians, advanced practitioners, nurses, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, physical therapists and other specialties in the Neuro ICU. The Advanced Practice Professional should be willing to work autonomously in a fast paced and collaborative environment and will have a strong interest in the longitudinal care of critically ill neurological patients.
The primary responsibility of the Advanced Practice Professional is the direct application of clinical expertise to patients and families being cared for in a tertiary care, academic medical center, including responsibility for maintaining quality of care standards for all procedures performed and all clinical care provided in the critical care setting.
The Advanced Practice Professional will be fully integrated into the ongoing functions of the Neurological ICU, such as research projects, teaching rounds, quality improvement projects, and resident and student education. Resident and student education is further facilitated with an appointment as an Instructor in the Geisel School of Medicine. The Advanced Practice Professional will be responsible for competently performing essential procedures including central line placement, arterial line placement, endotracheal intubations, and lumbar punctures.
