Accountable for performing and providing quality customer service within Microbiology. Responsible for ongoing interface and frequent communication with patients, customers, employees and management. Effectively supports efforts to manage change and innovation and foster teambuilding. Incumbent analyzes test results and relates them to the patientï¿½s normal physical state, as well as to the presence of disease or other conditions that may be indicated. Incumbent may assist in orienting / training and directing / monitoring the work of students, graduate med techs, and other staff new to the department. Understands and contributes to the vision/mission and goals of the department.
Analyze test results and relates them to the patientï¿½s normal physical state, as well as to the presence of disease or other conditions that may be indicated. Ensure the quality and flow of work through Microbiology by performing quality control checks, adhering to schedules, and keeping work area stocked and equipment in a safe operating condition. Enter exam and test results on LIS system. Complete reports. Perform special microbiology procedures and tests. Maintain quality control, specimen quality control, and biosafety. Perform Vitek and BactiAlert procedures. Perform afb procedures. Handle and collect all specimens following procedures. Perform mycology procedures. Prepare slide cultures appropriately. Perform probetec procedures, if applicable. Demonstrate knowledge of bioterrorism and serology manuals. Adhere to departmental procedure for verification, documentation, and notification of identified critical values to appropriate site. Notify Supervisor, and/or Manager of unusual QC or patient results and troubleshoot problems. Assist with research and development of new procedures and help keep procedure manuals current. Complete work in accordance to standards. Follow established department policies and procedures. Maintain and monitor equipment and order supplies.
Report equipment malfunctions reported to Laboratory Specialist and/or Technical Supervisor and/or Manager. Work with service to fix instrument problems. Perform serology tests and maintain quality control for serological test kits . Level 2 ï¿½ Proficient (in addition to above duties) Use time management and flexibility in organizing and prioritizing workload to provide optimal service to the department and the network. Provide assistance in instructing new employees and students. Support and participate in revising policies and procedures. Level 3 ï¿½ Subject Matter Expert (in addition to above duties) Assist with department procedures and administration. Participate in quality improvement measures within the department.
Qualifications: Education Required: BS in related field, including internship in an accredited program. Preferred: Additional training in CQI Process related health care standards and practices
Certificates Required: ASCP or equivalent that meets CLIA requirements for position.
Experience Preferred: 1 year microbiology experience
Skills Required: Team building, problem solving, critical thinking, coaching and mentoring, understanding of systems thinking and business development, and interpersonal communication
Knowledge Required: Regulatory and accreditation requirements Preferred: Continuous Quality Improvement Process related health care standards and practices
Other Required: Basic computer skills, personal computer applications, and awareness of current use of technology in related field
