The Vice President, Quality and Patient Safety reports directly to the Chief Medical Operations Officer, Tenet Corporate.
Specific Vice President, Quality and Patient Safety responsibilities include the following:
The Vice President, Quality and Patient Safety has responsibility for the vision, development, implementation, evaluation and sustainment, and general oversight of the Tenet Quality Program. This is accomplished, in part, by partnering with Senior Leadership to incorporate quality, patient safety, and regulatory and accreditation into hospital operations.
Develops and leads strategies for the adoption, implementation, evaluation, and sustainment that support the elimination of risk to patients, improvement in the quality of care delivery, and adherence to regulatory requirements and accreditation standards.
Provides shared learning and lessons learned opportunities for hospitals to improve performance and reduce the likelihood of known reoccurrence of unfavorable quality, patient safety, and regulatory and accreditation outcomes.
Develops and oversees the implementation and evaluation of strategies to educate and train employees and leaders at all levels in quality improvement and process redesign.
Ensures that products and services related to quality, patient safety and regulatory and accreditation are operator centric and add value to the patient, staff, and hospital leaders.
Communicates the Tenet Quality Program strategy, tactics, and status updates on a routine basis to hospital leaders.

Leads the development, adoption, implementation, evaluation, and sustainment of policies, procedures, guidelines, toolkits, playbooks, and other processes and structures that support meeting or exceeding targets for identified publically reported and internal measures including but not limited to:

Seeks and supports innovations that improve clinical processes and structures that produce positive outcomes.
Regulatory & Accreditation
Leads the development, adoption, implementation, evaluation, and sustainment of strategies for adherence to federal, state, and other regulatory requirements to gain or maintain hospital licensure. This includes The Joint Commission accreditation standards, disease certifications, and other prioritized certifications or clinical designations.
Serves as a regulatory and accreditation resource to hospitals, for interpretation, tools, education, methods to evaluate and the analysis of data, and actions for successful sustainment with regulatory requirements and accreditation standards and certifications.
Develops and maintains ongoing communication with leaders to align Tenet quality, patient safety, and regulatory and accreditation initiatives, trends, issues, survey results, sentinel events, and facility needs.
Leads the development, adoption, implementation, evaluation, and sustainment of strategies that eliminate the risk for patients harm and focused strategies for high-risk clinical programs and services. This includes identifying the appropriate processes, structures, and resources for the delivery of care.
Supports and facilitates the implementation of systems and processes that promote a culture of safety and high reliability to reduce patient and employee harm.
Uses hospital patient safety event data, external and internal benchmarks, and claims data to identify patient safety priorities.
Implements operational activities consistent with obligations under Tenetï¿½s Compliance Charter.

Fifty (50%) to seventy (70%) percent travel required.
Masters in a Healthcare related field is required; MD preferred,
Certification by a healthcare specific professional entity required by one of the following: Certified in Executive Nursing Practice (CENP) by American Association of Nurse Executives, Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE) by the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE), Certified Professional in Health Care Risk Management (CPHRM) by the American Hospital Association.
Six Sigma Black Belt certification preferred.
Required Background Experience
At least five years of progressive leadership responsibility in a multi-hospital system is required specific to quality, patient safety, regulatory and accreditation, clinical, and operations, which includes overall responsibility for long-term strategic growth initiatives.
Successful execution of strategies and tactics in a large health system is required for performance improvement, patient safety, and regulatory (CMS) and accreditation. (The Joint Commission).
Experience in strategic planning and collaboration with executive and key operational groups.
Experience with all phases of the product development lifecycle, including concept, design, implementation, verification and validation activities necessary for product commercialization.
Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to work collaboratively with others are required.
Ability to synthesize various data inputs and drive multi-disciplinary teams to consensus actions and outcomes/deliverables.
Experience as a leader for performance excellence and quality in a large multi-facility organization.
In-depth knowledge of national trends and be active nationally within the quality and performance improvement space.
An individual who has successfully driven initiatives that require coordination from multiple constituencies such as human resources, finance, information systems, and other departments.
Demonstrated ability to interact successfully at the executive level is required.
Strong organizational and prioritization skills, including large scale project management.
Capable of working with staff and assisting them in their continued development, as well as enhancing their performance in a supportive team environment.
