The Registered Nurse assesses plans, organizes, performs, and evaluates nursing activities to meet the needs of the patient. Promotes adaptive responses of patient/family to achieve the highest level of patient care, promote safety, and maximize patient satisfaction. Exhibits compassionate care during patient-nurse interactions. Coordinates patient care and interaction of staff. Meets the qualifications to provide care for patients in their assigned nursing unit Performs duties to support the goals and objectives of Geisinger Health System in its efforts to provide quality service and patient satisfaction. Reports directly to manager or designee.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
*Completes assessments as established by scope of practice and unit standards. Addresses physical, psychological, social, cultural, and spiritual needs of patient and family throughout the continuum of care. Initiates collaboration with physicians, ancillary personnel, and other interdisciplinary team members
*Formulates, coordinates, and provides plan of care as established in unit standards including, patient/family education, family needs and discharge planning throughout hospitalization with members of the interdisciplinary team. Evaluates effectiveness of nursing interventions and revises plan of care based upon patient response to interventions.
*Demonstrates necessary skills and knowledge to provide direct patient care including, treatments, medications, and diagnostic studies according to policy/procedure, to the age of patients served (i.e. neonates, pediatrics, adolescents, and geriatrics).
*Performs charge nurse duties as assigned. Provides input to the manager for performance appraisals of care delivery team members. *Actively participates in education and professional development activities as well as the Magnet mission Maintains licensure and required continuing education. Obtains/maintains certification (i.e. BLS, ACLS, PALS, Trauma). Certification type dependent upon specific unit requirements.
*Actively participates in patient quality/safety education programs and other activities designed to improve departmental and organizational quality and safety.
*Interprets and follow policies and guidelines to define procedures and meet goals/deadlines.

COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:
HEALTHCARE KNOWLEDGE-Knowledge of the operating principles, major issues, governmental regulations, and code of ethics for the healthcare industry; ability to apply this understanding appropriately to healthcare related situations.
GENERAL COMPUTER COMPETENCIES-Knowledge of and ability to use personal computers or workstations.
TEAM PLAYER-Must be able to work and communicate effectively in a team environment.
INDEPENDENT WORK-Demonstrates ability to work independently or with limited supervision. Demonstrates excellent clinical nursing skills, knowledge, judgment and leadership in a multidisciplinary environment. Demonstrates the capability of making rapid and clinically accurate decisions based on evidence based practice.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Nursing School Graduate, RN currently licensed, or eligible, in the state of Pennsylvania required. BLS ACLS PALS
