This position has overall authority and responsibility for leadership, direction and administration of direct patient care activities and nursing practice to the Emergency Department (ED), Nursing Support Services, Family Birth Center (FBC), Acute Care Unit (ACU), and Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
The Executive Director of Nursing Operations develops strategies and accountabilities that lead to the alignment, standardization and ongoing improvement of driving a high reliability organization. The Executive Director is responsible for evaluating, designing, implementing and coordinating clinical care delivery systems to achieve excellence in quality care outcomes and efficiency in system processes. S/he will be accountable for executing all identified clinical care projects, as well as leading clinical and organizational teams. S/he will directly manage the leadership for the ICU/ACU/FBC, ED, Express, and Nursing Support Services including clinical peer feedback, clinical policy and procedures, and clinical productivity.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
Develops plans to execute on the clinical care related strategies and programs.
Develops and implements common standards, protocols, policies and procedures for alignment of clinical care across their departments.
Active participants in mentoring, developing aspiring and future nursing leaders
Assists in prioritization of projects and tasks as well as participates in process standardization
Identify creative solutions to address current and future clinical care issues.
Ensures all of their departments work in accordance with established standards of practice, policy and regulatory requirements supporting best practice patient flow strategies and appropriate staffing.
Maintains awareness of all units and patient activity
Identifies and investigates competency themes associated with overall patient care within the departments. Develops and administers corrective measures to ensure safe, quality and efficient patient care. Reviews Quantros and works with leaders on evaluating and intervening on concerns. Elevates concerns as needed to C.N.O.
Considers the impact of decisions on the organization as a whole
Collaborates with other departments to assure coordination of care and collaboration that supports safe handoffs/transitions of care.
Ensures compliance with nursing standards and clinical practice within the departments.
Oversees development of policies and procedures in partnership with direct reports for use within each multiple department. Revises policies and procedures as needed ensuring the appropriate policies are in place and up to date.
Collaborates with leaders and is ultimately responsible for the preparation of annual budgets for capital equipment, personnel, supplies, and other departmental costs.
Ensures all department leaders adhere to operational budget. Monitors key components of salary expenses (overtime, vacancies, external staffing), supplies and other expenses. Regularly provides feedback to leaders regarding financial efficiencies and works on improving financial performance.
Participates and leads multi-department improvement activities
Maintains current knowledge of policies and regulatory guidance for local, state, and federal laws and regulations applicable to each department.
Fosters a high-performing culture of excellence that drives employee engagement and provides highly reliable, safe, high quality patient care.
Partners with providers in ED/Express, CRNA's, ED and hospitalists
Actively participates on Hospital committees and teams and communicates/collaborates with nursing leaders to drive performance.
Represents Jefferson Healthcare at appropriate community meetings.
Assists with training as requested.
Serves as content expert to employers, physicians, educational institutions, and community organizations.
Required Education and/or Experience
Current Washington state RN license in good standing
Bachelor of Science in Nursing required, Masters in Nursing or related field preferred
Ten (10) years of progressive nursing leadership experience required
