The Sexual Assault Healthcare Program Nurse Examiner will provide timely, non-judgmental, compassionate care to sexual assault patients. This will include a forensic exam, prophylaxis for pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases, photographic documentation, referrals for appropriate medical and psychological follow-up, support and participation in legal proceedings. These are grant funded positions.
Completes competency checklist while being observed by an experienced SANE
Provides direct medical-forensic care for patients presenting following sexual assault from the MSU community and the three surrounding counties (Ingham, Eaton and Clinton)
Provides comprehensive clinical care including repeat physical assessments, immunizations, medication administration, and photo documentation, as appropriate
Follows policies, procedures and protocols for the program
Participates in program staff meetings
Assists with routine clinic maintenance, such as stocking of clinic supplies and scheduling
Participates in quality measures, including peer review, continuing education, and orienting and precepting new team members
Assists with billing for individual exams
Assists with other operational duties as delegated by the Medical Director
24 hours of continuing education annually, including 4 hours regarding the issues of sexual assault medical-forensic examinations
Maintains close working relationship with SANE medical director and members of other disciplines in the care of sexual assault patients
Provides court testimony as needed
Collect and accurately report program and grant-related data.
Complete other miscellaneous VOCA Grant, University, and program documentation as needed.
Completes other duties as specified and assigned.
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four year college degree program in Nursing; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in Nursing; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. The position also requires possession of a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Michigan. May require a Bachelor's degree in Nursing and/or work experience in a particular area of nursing or health care.
