JOB SUMMARY
The Education Manager has primary responsibility & accountability for oversight of the hospital�s staff orientation, education and competency programs. The Education Manager will facilitate and work in collaboration with all department managers and/or unit educators to assess, identify, plan, implement and evaluate hospital, clinical, unit orientations, initial and annual competency assessments/checklists, continuing and annual education requirements for all hospital roles. Appropriately creates, alters, and/or modifies education program content as needed. Assess trends in patient care, health care, education delivery systems, clinical education and practice for hospital staff to ensure that programs are put in place to meet the goals of the facility. Provides oversight of the hospital�s online education delivery database and actively works with all managers to ensure compliance and adherence to timely completion of online education plans for all hospital staff. Directly supervises clinical educators, support staff and the AHA Training Coordinator. Provides oversight of the hospital�s volunteer services program. Promote high standards of patient care through role modeling and educational programs that are consistent with policy and procedures and incorporate clinical standards. Completes established competencies for the position within designated introductory period. Develops and maintains communication tools for effective employee engagement in simulation laboratory and educational activities. Other related duties as assigned.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential Job Duties

- Assesses training needs and any regulatory requirements, design programs to meet them, and ensure that the programs are being completed.
- Ensure maintenance of records of lesson plans, records of clinical training within the facility, and all records needed for licensing requirements.
- Plans and develops clinical competencies across all clinical departments (Nursing and Ancillary), utilizing reliable and valid methods to validate competency and learning.
- Ensures that mandatory and department specific education requirements are being met for the facility.
- Plans, revises, coordinates, implements and evaluates general orientation, clinical orientation, nursing and non-nursing skills training, and in-service education for all licensed and certified roles.
- Facilitate and provide educational programming and competency testing for all staff, which supports the ongoing improvement of healthcare to those we serve.
- Responsible for overall coordination of education and training functions of the hospital. Key responsibility areas include: a) Oversight of departmental plans/Educational Needs Assessment; b) Management Development; c) Clinical and Professional Staff Development; and, d) Computer Aided Instruction (CAI).
- Provide specialized consulting to all departments for: Orientation program/manuals, Competency testing and measurement, CAI, Instructional design and Implementing staff development programs with individual departments.
- Plans and organizes: sets departmental goals that align with hospital goals; analyzes workload, and anticipates future business and staffing needs and plans accordingly; establishes organizational requirements, and defines position responsibilities.
- Department Administration: Communicates, administers and actively supports hospital policies and procedures; prepares and submits required reports, and maintains accurate and current records.
- School Liaison: Establishes connections with community colleges and universities to promote healthcare occupations; and, coordinates technical college and university-based preceptorships with the organization.
- Budget Responsibilities: Prepares, submits, and works within an annual operating and capital department budget; and, forecasts future needs (staffing, supplies, equipment, space, etc.), tracks budget against expenses, identifies variances and revises programming as necessary.
- Department Duties: Creates and maintains training records; and, performs Needs Analysis to identify educational needs of departments throughout the organization; develops and coordinates cost effective and efficient programs to meet identified needs; conducts educational needs training and programs; evaluates educational programs; coordinates BLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP and STABLE programs; develops, schedules, conducts and evaluates orientation and on-going required programs for new employees, managers and physicians; develops and implements policies and procedures regarding Education and Training Services; actively participates in hospital/facility committees and ad hoc committees as assigned; and participates in Quality Improvement projects/reports.
Qualifications:
PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Reports to work on time and as scheduled, completes work within designated time.
- Adheres to scheduling requests of the department (Works weekends, no �special days off�, no exceptions).
- Adheres to the Customer Service Standards of the hospital while representing the organization in a positive and professional manner.
- Communicates the mission, ethics and goals of the facility, as well as the focus statement of the department and complies with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices.
- Completes annual education requirements and maintains regulatory requirements.
- Adheres to dress code, appearance is neat and clean and wears identification while on duty.
- Completes in-services and returns in a timely fashion and has not missed any mandatory in-services.
- Actively participates in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities.
- Bachelor�s degree in nursing with at least five years of varied acute care experience.
REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Registered Nurse experience within the last 60 months and 36 months of acute/critical care experience.
- Current Registered Nurse licensure by the Texas State Board of Nursing.
- Education Required � Bachelor�s Degree, Master�s preferred.
- Current BLS, ACLS certification. Must become certified as an instructor for BLS, ACLS and PALS within 12 months of taking the role.
- Three years experience with program development and teaching. Familiarity with managing an education and training department desirable.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
- Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
- Additional languages preferred.
