Position performs receptionist and clerical duties under the supervision of the Charge Nurse, Clinical Coordinator/ED Director. Responsible for ordering supplies, equipment and services as directed. Operates the Hear/Reddinet computer system. Responsible for completing established competencies for the position within designated orientation timeframe.
Performs under the supervision of a RN/Charge Nurse in the nursesâ�� station. Acts as a focus of communication in the nursesâ�� station for all customers: Patients, Family, Physicians, and other members of the healthcare team. Answers telephone in a professional manner. Demonstrates professional and personal â��first impressionâ�� greetings to all customers. Responds to patient call lights promptly and professionally and communicates to appropriate nursing staff. Assesses and prioritizes a rapidly changing workload. Completes work in a timely manner. Maintains a clean and orderly work environment. Shares responsibility for organizing supplies, tracking, stocking and storing of equipment/supplies and keeping department clean and organized. Prompt recognition of emergent patient calls and follows chain of command as appropriate. Ensures confidentiality of patientsâ�� medical record information. Calls physicians and other members of the healthcare team as directed. Actively participates in unit meetings and reads communication materials. Participates in the successful implementation of change. Other duties as assigned.
High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Medical terminology knowledge preferred.
Six months previous Emergency Department Unit Secretary experience preferred.
American Heart Association BLS.
CPI/Non-violent crisis intervention/verbal de-escalation course within 3 months of hire.
