Scope of Responsibilities Plan and provide professional nursing care for patients at the Student Health Clinic in accordance with NC State Law, physician orders and established policies and procedures. Work in conjunction with the Immunization Coordinator to implement the immunization compliance process.
Duties Plan and provide professional nursing care for patients at Duke Student Health in accordance with physician orders and established policies and procedures to include collecting and analyzing patient data, making recommendations for nursing care plans, establishing interpersonal relationships with patients, evaluating nursing care given and communicating to proper personnel relevant facts about patients, action taken and patient responses. Provide patient education as appropriate. Orient new staff to the immunization process. 30%
Assist the Immunization Coordinator and the Student Health nursing team with the process to document required immunizations for incoming students. Review submitted documents. Enter/update compliance status in the electronic health record and University systems. Produce status reports as needed. Review and edit immunization and TB screening forms using office software applications. Administer vaccines/patient medications per provider order or standing order; administer and document medications and therapies according to established policies and procedures; document adverse reactions when they occur. 30%
Collaborate with the Immunization Coordinator and Nurse Manager regarding university health science programs, Duke Volunteers, the Duke Shadowing program, Service-learning courses, athletics, and external clinical rotation sites. Plan and implement a process where programs are informed on updates from the Advisory Committee on Immunizations (ACIP) and the Center for Disease control (CDC), immunization records are processed and compliance to participate is verified. 20%
Oversee Immunization clinic, flu clinic and offsite testing, and vaccine clinic supplies. Order, organize, and coordinate with flu clinic staff and Student Heath's staff prior to events. 10%
Provide professional nursing care for allergy clinic patients in accordance with orders and established policies and procedures to include the following: review orders from allergist, communicate with allergist as needed, and administer vaccine as ordered or alter dose based on patient's response and allergist's order. 2.5%
Plan and provide professional nursing care for travel clinic patients in accordance with orders and established policies and procedures to include the following: evaluate the need for travel vaccines based on patient's/group's itinerary, provide patient/group education regarding travel vaccines and travel risks, explain vaccine recommendations and requirements to patient/group, and administer travel vaccines as ordered by a provider or by standing order. 2.5%
Assist other nursing staff in the delivery of patient care; triaging patients as needed, provide direction and guidance in the proper use, care and control of material resources; appraise quality and effectiveness of materials and equipment and report results to nurse manager; maintain standards of cleanliness in assigned area; observe activities of nursing staff and make recommendations to nurse manager for improvement in the quality and effectiveness of nursing care given. 2.5%

Minimum Qualifications Education Work requires graduation from an accredited Bachelors of Science in Nursing program. State of North Carolina licensure.
Experience One year of nursing experience. Experience working in a student health clinic or similar setting preferred.

Demonstrated proficiency using standard office applications: Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and Power Point.
Knowledge of and ability to effectively use various systems such as EPIC, Point 'N Click, and PeopleSoft or similar.

Ability to orient and educate new and existing staff on immunization protocols and updates.
