The VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System, Behavioral Health Service Line (BHSL) has one (1) vacancy for a Licensed Practical Nurse. The LPN will be assigned to the Behavioral Health Interdisciplinary Program (BHIP) but may be assigned to any program area. The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) demonstrates knowledge and ability to provide a full range of practical nursing care to Veterans with a variety of physical and behavioral needs. Possesses a detailed working knowledge of practical nursing skills and procedures. Functions as a member of the Behavioral Health team by participating in planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing care using a focused assessment. Functions as a preceptor to new LPN's, Healthcare Technicians and Nursing Assistants. Administers medications via various processes, including intravenous with completion of approval training and competencies. Carries out complex treatments as needed or ordered; monitors Veterans response to medication and treatments, reports changes and documents in Veteran charts. Participates in providing or reinforcing Veteran education to both the Veterans and their families on such topics as, disease process, medication and treatments and possible side effects, procedures and surgeries, equipment and devices or any education and/or documentation deemed necessary for the effectiveness of the care of the Veteran. Assist the Veteran in activities of daily living toward the attainment of rehabilitative/restorative goals. In addition to providing direct patient care, this LPN does have limited administrative/managerial duties as needed.
