Incentives: Recruitment/Relocation Incentives may be offered to highly qualified applicant Provides clinical and executive leadership and oversight for outpatient nursing practice and case management in all Primary Care Clinics/Patient Aligned Care Teams (PACT), Women's Health Clinic, and Specialty Care Clinics across Central Texas Veterans Health Care System at the Austin, Cedar Park, LaGrange and Bryan/College Station campuses. Establishes and promotes productive, mutually supportive, working relationships with the Deputy Nurse Executive, facility leadership, other administrative and professional staff and internal and external customers assuring optimal quality of care delivery, productivity/efficiency, clinical outcomes and patient satisfaction. In collaboration with the Associate Chief of Staff for Ambulatory Care, Medicine Functional Restoration, Mental Health and Surgery, designs and implements interdisciplinary programs within the service and medical center. Duties and responsibilities include, but not limited to: Leading and organizing delivery of care to assure continuity of care and peer accountability for practice, including access to care and discharge planning. Using advanced clinical knowledge/judgment to promote staff involvement in planning, decision-making, and evaluating outcomes. Functioning as an expert in clinical practice and/or areas related to the assigned roles and responsibilities. Systematically evaluating current practice, and formulating outcomes for groups of patients and/or organizational processes within an area of expertise. Guiding, developing, and supporting staff from a leadership perspective. Using professional standards of care, scientific evidence, and practice to evaluate programs and/or service activities. Has the oversight/responsibility for (1) Making recommendations for appointments, advancements, or reassignments of subordinates; and (2) Recommending and/or taking disciplinary action when appropriate Responsible for performance improvement, customer service/patient satisfaction, patient, and employee safety, interviewing applicants, employee relations, standards of care and practice, the work environment, and accreditation and regulatory standards. Actively develops and manages collaborative partnerships with physicians and other clinicians. Responsible for staffing their units/areas on a continual basis (24/7) and working with other Associate Chief Nurses and Staffing Coordinator/Nurse on Duty to identify and share resources Responsible for time schedules, coaching staff, deals with employee conduct and performance issues, completes recurring reports and performance evaluations in a timely manner. Participates on service and medical center committees and task forces to improve nursing practice and patient care. Identifies educational needs of staff and ensures that these needs are addressed. Has an integral role in supporting and facilitating student nurse clinical experiences, as well as orienting new Associate Chief Nurses. Works in partnership with the union and adheres to EEO principles. In the absence of an Associate Chief Nurse, a cross-covering Associate Chief Nurse will be designated to handle administrative and clinical issues, such as staffing coverage, granting leave, and patient and/or staff issues. Responsible for strategic planning and performance measures Provides organizational and leadership skills to develop and mentor a highly effective, diverse workforce, to improve overall health care system operations, and to support strategic planning initiatives. Consistently conducts self in a manner that demonstrates accountability and adherence to standards of professional practice and patient care. Functions as a resource person and role model, demonstrating applicable knowledge and skills, and communicating and enforcing nursing and facility policies and procedures. As a member of the service leadership team, applicant will be routinely involved in decisions that impact the budget, staffing, and labor negotiations. Responsible for assessing and recommending the allocation of human and materiel resources, in determining staffing levels using RUGS, NHPPD or other staffing models, managing overtime, and plays a significant role in the recruitment and retention of nursing staff. Ensures competency assessment is completed on each nursing employee annually. Reviews EPRP, VASQUIP, IPEC, Performance Measures, and other data for trends and early intervention; formulates follow-up plans with Nurse Executive Team, Nurse Managers, the service, and the medical center Work Schedule: Primary Tour of Duty 0730-1600 however tour of duty remains flexible based on service and organizational need Financial Disclosure Report: Not required
