The South Texas Veterans Health Care System (STVHCS) is hiring a Registered Nurse (Assistant Nurse Manager-ANM) for Community Living Center (CLC) in Kerrville, Texas. The RN-ANM is designated first-line supervisory authority, responsibility, and accountability for the 24/7 operations of their units/areas, ensuring that subordinate personnel provide timely nursing care which complies with generally accepted standards of clinical practice. The RN Assistant Nurse Manager will accept, amend, or reject the work of subordinates. Possess continuing responsibility for all the following functions: (1) Plan work to be accomplished by subordinates, set priorities and prepare schedules for completion of work; (2) Assign work to subordinates based on priorities, selective consideration of the difficulty and the requirements of the assignments, and the capabilities of subordinates; (3) Evaluate the performance of subordinates; (4) Give advice, counsel, or instruction to subordinate personnel on work and administrative matters; (5) Hear and resolve complaints of subordinates and referring more serious complaints not resolved to higher level supervisors; (6) Recommend and/or take disciplinary action where appropriate; and (7) Identify developmental and training needs of subordinates and provide or make provision for such development and training. Responsible for performance improvement, customer service/patient satisfaction, patient and employee safety, interviewing applicants, employee relations, standards of care and practice, the work environment, and accreditation and regulatory standards. Actively develop and manage collaborative partnerships with physicians and other clinicians. Responsible for staffing units/areas on a continual basis (24/7), and working with other Nurse Managers and Staffing Coordinator/Nurse on Duty to identify and share resources. Responsible for time schedules, coach staff, deal with employee conduct and performance issues, complete recurring reports and performance evaluations in a timely manner. Participate on service and medical center committees and task forces to improve nursing practice and patient care. Identify educational needs of staff and ensure that needs are addressed. Has an integral role in supporting and facilitating student nurse clinical experiences, as well as orienting new Nurse Managers/Assistant Nurse Managers and nursing staff. Work in partnership with the union and adheres to EEO principles. Work as a staff nurse during periods of staffing shortages. Distribute time and effort between hands-on direct care (40%) and management/administrative functions (60%).
