We are looking for a dynamic RN to support our busy and fast paced Perianesthesia departments at Fairview Southdale Hospital, located in Edina, Minnesota. RN provides pre and post-anesthesia care to a broad range of patient demographics, including ambulatory and inpatient patient populations. Roles include pre-op phone calls, pre-op assessment and admission day of surgery, assisting anesthesiologist with blocks, Phase 1 and Phase 2 recovery in PACU-extended observation. The Registered Nurse is responsible for the assessment, planning, delivery, and evaluation of nursing care for all assigned patient population(s). The RN is responsible for performing these responsibilities in accordance with all policy, procedures, professional practice guidelines and the MN Nurse Practice Act. The RN coordinates care with members of the health care team and delegates responsibilities to others as appropriate.
Position reports to Nurse manager with assistance by Patient Care supervisor, educator, and advance practice nurse
Averaging 20,000 surgical cases per year ages 12-adult
Inpatient and outpatient departments are served by 28 combined PACU bays, and 25 Pre-op/Phase II bays.
Typical cases include: Ortho, OB/GYN, Neurology, Urology, ENDO/GI, ENT, heart, vascular and general surgery.
The RN is responsible for the assessment, planning, delivery, and evaluation of nursing care of all assigned Perianesthesia patients (Pre-op, Phase 1 and Phase 2 )
Coordinates care with members of the health care team and delegates responsibilities to others as appropriate, while following policy, procedures and professional practice guidelines. Pre and post op phone calls, pre-op assessment (advocacy and legals aspects to support a safe surgery process), admissions, assisting with procedures, administering conscious sedation
Demonstrates effecitve communication and service recovery with Periop team and patients and their families/care givers.
Nursing care for patients in altered state of consciousness, including advanced airway and ventilator management, hemodynamic monitoring, drug administration and comfort management
Knowledge of anesthetic agents, narcotic analgesics and cardiovascular drugs
Provides post op pain and comfort management.
Provides post op nausea and vomiting management.
Provides hemodynamic monitoring and intervention.
Administers drugs and addresses drug-related problems, especially related to anesthesia..
Provides hemodynamic monitoring and intervention.
Assess and apply techniques or actions to administer drugs, which minimizes drug-related problems, especially related to anesthesia.
Recognize and treat arrhythmia and respond to hemodynamic changes.
Ability to provide discharge instructions to patients and families of different cultures from ages 12-adult
Provides on going assessment to determine optimal discharge criteria and timing
Current MN RN License
Current BLS and ACLS certification with American Heart Association as a Health Care Provider
Minimum 1 year current PACU experience.
Ability to transport patients to units within and outside of the department
Flexibility in work schedule including rotating day/evening shifts Holiday, weekend and night call hours
Strong communication skills and customer service skills
Attention to detail
Desire to provide excellent clinical care and willingness to collaborate with inpatient and outpatient areas
3years experience as RN with Adult patients in PACU - Perianestheisa acute care setting
BSN or enrolled in BSN, or willingness to obtain BSN in the near future
