The VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System (VAGLAHS) is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Registered Nurse (RN) to serve as our Assistant Nurse Manager in our In-Patient Mental Health Services. Functions as a supervisor and assumes accountability for the operation of a designated unit/program. This includes the management, supervision, and evaluation of care delivered by nursing staff and other allied health care staff. Typical duties include but are not limited to: Provides a full range of nursing care to patients with complex care needs utilizing the nursing process based on the ANA Standards of Nursing Practice. Demonstrates consistent clinical competence in providing nursing care. Uses equipment correctly and accurately Interprets data. Recognizes subtle changes ln patient's condition and responds timely, choosing the correct interventions. Demonstrates evidence of critical thinking skills in identifying. analyzing, and resolving patient care problems on the unit. Provides leadership in estabbshln1 goals, evaluating the plan of care, and In discharge planning. Assesses the patient's learning needs, learning preference, and readiness to learn. Modifies leaching approach based on knowledge of human behavior, motivations, and reactions to situations. Accurately documents in the medical record patient findings, assessments and care provided. Documentation is technically informative, complete, accurate, consistent, concise, and timely. Evaluates and documents patient response to Interventions and progress towards attainment of goals and expected outcomes. Effectively functions as the charge nurse, team leader, or In other leadership role that guides und directs others who provide patient care. Makes assignments and directs activities of other unit staff, (RNs, LVNs, NAs, students, PSAs, other team members). Assigns patient care responsibilities based upon patient needs and competencies of staff. Organizes and completes own assignments in a safe and timely manner, assisting team members as necessary. Provides direction to staff for unit activities in meeting patient care needs and Improving patient care. Ensures that delegated tasks as assigned are completed by other staff. Ensures the physician and/or the nurse manager/ immediate supervisor/coordinator are notified of untoward events involving patients and staff, either by assigned RN or by self. Coordinates dally logistics regarding unit turbulence (admissions, discharges, transfers in/out), triage and patient care needs, Uses a team approach to Identify, analyze, und resolve patient care problems that result in Improved patient outcomes. Demonstrates grade-appropriate and consistent critical thinking skills. Demonstrates responsibility and accountable with for own nursing judgments and actions. Serves as a resource for patients and staff in addressing ethical Issues. Acts as a patient advocate when patient self-determination Is questioned. Safeguards patient privacy and maintains confidentiality of all electronic and printed patient information according to H1PAA guidelines, the Privacy Act, and as slated In the Medical Center Memo on ADP Security. Demonstrates working knowledge of formal verbal and written counseling to staff members under immediate supervision. Works with the Manager and Team Leader to develop the specific objective plan by which the career goals will be met. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday(rotate every other weekend). May be working different tours depending on unit needs.
