As a designated regional perinatal center, Vanderbilt is required to provide ongoing professional education for the staff of the regional center as well as a program of outreach education for the hospitals within the region. A key part of this position will be teaching courses in electronic fetal monitoring, low risk obstetrics and high risk obstetrics to healthcare professionals. This position will also provide simulation training for obstetrics emergencies. The outreach/education nurse can also be expected to assist with information and advice regarding OB unit workflows, processes, and policies as needed. The regional perinatal center is responsible for accepting maternal-fetal transports and data collection. The nurse in this position will be involved in preparing a report of compiled data regarding delivered patients, referred patients, and educational activities conducted and to be sent to the Department of Health on a quarterly basis. This nurse would also coordinate for any needed changes in services to support successful transfers, and communicate with hospitals in the region for interest in educational or quality related services.
