Registered Nurse (Wound Care)
The Wound Care Nurse (WNC) is a self-directed professional nurse who assumes a leadership role in direct and indirect care and management of a group of patients with acute and chronic wounds, fistulas, pressure ulcers and ostomies. This is accomplished through the coordination of care with physicians, nurse practitioners, medical residents/students, other health professionals and hospital systems. The WC nurse is engaged in clinical nursing practice characterized by both increased complexity of clinical decision-making and enhanced skill in nursing practice. He/She provides leadership in the day-to-day operations of the wound care program and provides input into the strategic planning process in the attainment of organizational goals.
