The Nurse Anesthetist will have the ability to pre-operatively evaluate the patient in a timely fashion, if needed, optimize the patient prior to elective surgery and be able to order necessary work up after discussion with Anesthesiologists. You will be assigned cases according to his/her experience, ability and complexity of the cases provided to him/her on a daily basis. You will have administrative responsibility for Medical Instrument Technician (Anesthesia tech). You should have the ability to be flexible and work congenially with not only anesthesia provider but all the OR crew. Clinical Functions: You will demonstrate current clinical practice and act as a consultant in nurse anesthesia practice. Attend Medical Center Staff meetings and represents a professional image of Nurse Anesthesia practice in the Surgical Service Line and Amarillo VA Healthcare System. Design/revise formal standards of practice to improve patient outcomes and health care delivery processes at the service, functional group, Medical Center, network, or community levels. Participates and collaborates with multidisciplinary teams in implementing and improving standards of practice. Acquire and maintain current knowledge in practice ( assessments, therapies, procedures, and technology) to effectively meet program, service, functional area, protocols and/or system performance. Address ethical issues that impact individual patients, families, peers, and functional groups in collaboration with service, interdisciplinary, and administrative staff. Knowledge to participate in the audit of anesthesia care, recommending changes where indicated. Local and regional anesthesia with and without sedation, including topical and infiltration, minor and major nerve blocks, intravenous blocks, spinal, and epidural. General anesthesia, including invasive and non-invasive monitoring, respiratory therapy and airway management to include emergency cricothyroidotomy with direct supervision of surgeon or anesthesiologist. Provision of anesthesia related consultative services for other service providers when requested. Perform pre-operative evaluations and preparation for anesthesia. Administer general, spinal, regional, local, or topical anesthesia. Perform anesthesia management of the patient: Pre, Intra, and Post-Operative. Follow up during the immediate post-operative period.
