The Director of Nursing Quality & Patient Safety, in association with the senior leadership and according to established policies and procedures, directs hospital wide leadership in quality improvement and patient safety assessment, measurement and outcomes. Responsibilities include but not limited to:
â�¢ Collaborates to identify quality improvement and patient safety management process improvement opportunities/priorities, develop quality/ patient safety process improvement plans, and implement appropriate interventions to improve clinical/service outcomes of care and support achievement of hospital and system outcome standards.
â�¢ Directs unexpected clinical event investigations and oversees recommendations/ follow-through.
â�¢ Provides leadership and education to departments regarding clinical outcomes and patient safety process/ performance measurements, monitoring and evaluation.
â�¢ Oversees the development, implementation and/or revision of procedures/protocols in accordance with hospital and system-wide goals and objectives.
â�¢ Responsible for the oversight of quality committees within the hospital.
â�¢ Communicates regular updates to CEO and appropriate physician leaders and hospital Advisory Board members as needed.
â�¢ Monitors activities for and ensures compliance with laws and government regulations as well as Joint Commission coordination and follow-up.
â�¢ As directed, implements external and internal audit recommendations.
â�¢ Approves personnel actions such as hires, fires, disciplines, etc.
â�¢ Ensures the timely completion of performance appraisals.
â�¢ Develops and monitors budget for area.
â�¢ Bachelorâ��s degree in Healthcare Administration, Public Health, Operations Analysis, clinical or other related field, or the equivalent combination of education and/or experience. Masterâ��s degree in a health-related field preferred.
â�¢ Three to five years progressively more responsible experience in a healthcare related field, preferably acute care hospital environment.
â�¢ Three years of progressive management experience in an acute care facility with at least one year of frequent involvement with senior management, physicians and outside patient care providers. Director level management experience preferred.
â�¢ Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Michigan highly preferred.
â�¢ Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality through Healthcare Quality Certification Board (HQCB) preferred.
