Typical Duties

• Plans and coordinates various functions to provide quality of care and safe patient care delivery
• Assists in Nursing Quality Improvement initiatives
• Supports the mission, vision statement, and goals of Cook County Health & Hospitals Systems (CCHHS)
• Facilitates interventions to meet patients' physical, psychological, spiritual, cultural, and educations needs
• Coordinates functions with physicians and other departments of the hospital fostering positive working relationships
• Assists with staff schedule oversight including 24/7 call rotation
• Takes on-call assignments, as needed
• Serves as a role model, mentor, educator, and evaluator for staff
• Completes risk management and unit management reports within specified timeframe
• Provides and coordinates resources needed within the unit
• Ensures completion of admission and ongoing patient assessment
• Ensures formulation of an individualized plan of care derived from assessment data.
• Ensures implementation of the nursing plan of care
• Ensures evaluation of the effectiveness of interventions and revises as appropriate.
• Ensures appropriate documentation
• Performs duties as needed to prepare the preoperative patient for the Cath Lab procedure experience
• Participates actively in staff development activities
• Makes appropriate and timely decisions in a crisis or emergency situation
• Contributes to the efficient management operation of the Perioperative areas when assigned.
• Identifies plan and care for total needs of patient taking into consideration the age specific requirements
• Identifies unsafe patient care and assumes responsibility for intervention
• Performs cardiopulmonary resuscitation activities
• Delegates duties to professional and paraprofessional personnel in absence of a charge nurse
• Applies principles of Infection Control and Safety
• Promotes teamwork throughout the department
• Attends and participates in department meetings and in-services
• Performs other duties as assigned

• Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) from a school of nursing.
• Certification in Peri anesthesia or Critical Care Nursing
• Certification in Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
• Bilingual
• Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN) certification
• Current ICU charge nurse experience
• Current one (1) to five (5) years of ICU, cath/ EP lab, Trauma and/or Burn experience
• Current experience and knowledge R/T hemodynamic monitoring and titration of vasoactive medication infusion
• Experience and knowledge of radiological safety
• Current moderate and deep sedation administration and monitoring experience

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics

• Knowledge of current principles and practice of pre and post anesthesia care nursing
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills necessary to communicate with all levels of staff and a patient population composed of diverse cultures and age groups
• Demonstrates leadership/management ability in the absence of the charge nurse
• Demonstrates awareness of patient/family rights and ethical issues
• Demonstrates responsibility and accountability for professional practice, growth and development transferred in or out of the unit
• Demonstrate attention to detail, accuracy and precision
• Ability to prioritize, plan and organize projects and tasks
