Overview
Join the Beebe Outpatient Operating Room Team on a per diem basis - weekdays only! This role is ideal for an experienced operating room nurse seeking flexibility while contributing expert perioperative care in a dynamic surgical environment.
We are seeking a clinically competent, registered professional nurse with at least one year of operating room nursing experience. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong clinical judgment, collaboration, and the ability to support patients through every phase of the surgical experience.
In this role, you will utilize the full nursing process - assessment, planning, intervention, implementation, and evaluation - to deliver safe, high?quality care to surgical patients. As a perioperative nursing expert, you will work closely with the interdisciplinary team to ensure optimal patient outcomes and a seamless surgical experience.
Responsibilities
Surgical & Aseptic Technique
- Demonstrates competency in scrub and surgical routines, including proper aseptic technique.
- Utilizes correct scrub, gowning, and gloving techniques for self, surgeon, and assistants.
- Provides ongoing monitoring of asepsis in all roles-scrub, circulator, and assistant.
- Anticipates surgeon needs and recognizes procedure sequence in all roles.
- Passes instruments correctly and prepares thoroughly for assigned procedures.
Instrument Processing & Sterilization
- Operates autoclaves and Steris units according to established guidelines.
- Performs required daily A-Tests/Biological tests.
- Ensures proper care, handling, and assembly of instruments for processing.
- Completes accurate documentation of all flash and Steris sterilization cycles per protocol.
Supply, Equipment, and Inventory Management
- Maintains personal accountability for proper handling and efficient use of supplies and equipment.
- Ensures optimal care and stewardship of all departmental inventory.
Perioperative Nursing Process
- Assessment: Collects, interprets, records, and communicates patient data relevant to surgical care.
- Planning: Uses assessment data to develop appropriate intraoperative nursing care plans.
- Implementation: Provides direct patient care to meet physical and psychological needs.
- Evaluation: Continuously evaluates patient response and adjusts care plans as needed.
Clinical Knowledge & Documentation
- Demonstrates strong theoretical and clinical knowledge of perioperative nursing concepts.
- Understands both the "why" and the "how" behind perioperative practices.
- Completes thorough, accurate documentation of all intraoperative care activities.
Patient Positioning & Safety
- Applies proper intraoperative positioning techniques.
- Follows universal skin-care precautions.
- Implements measures to prevent nerve injury and pressure-related skin breakdown.
Surgical Counts & Preference Management
- Assists with accurate counts of sponges, sharps, instruments, and miscellaneous items per policy.
- Helps maintain up-to-date surgeon preference sheets in collaboration with the department coordinator and nurse manager.
Critical Thinking & Workflow Management
- Demonstrates effective critical thinking, prioritization, and time-management skills.
- Maintains accuracy with patient charges and ensures cost-effective supply usage.
- Provides necessary post-case information for timely billing.
Case Turnover & Operating Room Efficiency
- Contributes to efficient turnover times by being readily available and communicating proactively with the OR coordinator and nurse manager.
- Manages gross contamination during procedures to minimize spread.
- Assists with room cleanup and setup tasks as needed.
- Prioritizes case preparation to support maximum workflow efficiency.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 1-year recent perioperative experience in the hospital setting.
- Must be knowledgeable regarding the nursing process and its application--assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
